In 2018 the Jakes Gerwel Foundation invited me to present the Yoh! project at Grassy Park High School on the Cape Flats, where Jakes Gerwel himself was once a teacher. Like Piemp, the Yoh! Project draws on Narrative Therapy ideas to create a framework within which learners use the written and spoken word to construct preferred narratives for their lives. The project also aimed at creating platforms in which the young poets could become visible to themselves and to others. In 2018, Principal Marcia Woolward joined the group and started writing her own poetry. Since retiring at the end of 2019, Marcia has taken over the running of the weekly Yoh! sessions at Grassy Park High. My role has become one of continued support of this exciting programme.
